The tree of life is an ancient motif seen in many other cultures over the centuries. This is my take on it. Around the edges of the painting are the four seasons. Either side of the tree are night and day. So the tree is born, grows, lives and eventually dies with the passage of time.

The tree of life resembles the taxonomy of life also and follows a shape seen repeatedly in nature.

This painting was painted in water-based oils and is the first large painting I have made using these paints. I found their use to be an interesting experience, but still prefer traditional oils.

The exhbition review in local media featured the painting, so it drummed up some interest for me and the other artists.
