This fascinating carving is in Inverness museum and is thought to have been carved by Vikings.
The Vikings were a fierce and warlike people whose attitude to their neighbours was to take from them what they wanted. However they were also a people capable of very fine art, as many European museums attest to. They had great skill in metalwork and carving stone, wood and whalebone.
